I've not been inspired to write much these days. Probably because Camryn has been plagued by some grotesque rash (given to her by Ethan) and Ethan by some grotesque behavior (developed totally on his own) for what feels like weeks now. Also, ever since our new neighbors moved in across the street, we don't see much of the kids anymore. Between Margot's (2 doors downs across the street), Hattie's (next door), Emily and Gracie's (2 doors down), and now Ava and Bella's house (directly across), Ethan rarely wants to be home and is running between his six "ladies" all day long. It's really quite something. A heartbreaker at just five!!
I've been at my wits' end with his behavior and in desperation, even ordered a scam parenting program in a late-night-infomercial moment-of-weakness. It's surprisingly been slightly insightful and I am newly committed to being more consistent and firm vis-a-vis Ethan's behavior, and it's appropriate consequences. I'm also finding that the more we revisit our Montessori activities and I help both kids engage in purposeful work, the better for all of us. They have been helping more around the house and doing more for themselves (preparing and cleaning up meals, laundry, dusting/cleaning, making the bed, arranging flowers, self-help skills, etc.) and seem to enjoy and appreciate the responsibility. We even washed some towels with an old-fashioned washboard and basin, and made our very own fresh detergent by grating a bar of soap and mixing in a little borax. The sh*t really works! Ironing board has been ordered and should arrive tomorrow!
